  • Veterans' Home Care

Funded by DVA, with a small contribution for some services, set by DVA. We confirm yours first.

Living by the lake

At home, or in your retirement village.

Many of our Lake Macquarie clients live in their own homes, and many in independent living units and retirement villages around the lake. We come to you either way, with nursing, personal care and home help under one plan.

Living in a village does not change your DVA or Support at Home funding. Call us and we confirm what applies.

Lake Macquarie questions.

Do you provide DVA Community Nursing in Lake Macquarie?
Yes. We are a DVA contracted Community Nursing provider, DVA Provider 9728631A, with a local base at Blacksmiths, caring for veterans around the lake from Charlestown and Belmont to Toronto and Morisset.
What home care services are available in Lake Macquarie?
Through us: DVA Community Nursing, Veterans' Home Care, Support at Home, private nursing, step down and respite care, nursing agency staff, and NDIS supports. All are led by Registered Nurses.
Which Lake Macquarie suburbs do you cover?
Charlestown, Whitebridge, Dudley, Redhead, Belmont, Valentine, Eleebana, Warners Bay, Speers Point, Cardiff, Glendale, Teralba, Toronto, Swansea, Bonnells Bay, Morisset, Cooranbong and nearby suburbs. If yours is not listed, call us.
Can Belmont Hospital or John Hunter Hospital refer directly to you?
Yes. A treating doctor or discharge planner can send a written referral to referrals@abchs.com.au or use our online form. A hospital referral lasts six weeks, after which the GP sends a new one.
Do you visit retirement villages and independent living units?
Yes. We care for people in their own homes and in retirement villages around the lake. Your DVA or Support at Home funding works the same way in a village.
How quickly can a nurse start in Lake Macquarie?
We reply to every referral within 24 to 48 hours. Before any care begins, a Registered Nurse assesses you at home. For a hospital discharge, call 02 9387 3030 so we can plan around the date.
How do I get Support at Home in Lake Macquarie?
Call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 for an assessment. Once you are approved, ask for ABC Homes N Services as your provider and we arrange the rest with you.
What will care cost me?
DVA Community Nursing is free for eligible veterans. Support at Home clinical care has no contribution, and other services may carry one based on your means. Private nursing is quoted in writing. We confirm every cost before care starts.
Can I switch to ABC Homes N Services from another provider?
Yes. For Support at Home, your funding moves with you and there are no exit fees. For DVA Community Nursing, your GP sends us a new referral, which we help arrange. Either way, we handle the handover so your care does not stop.
Can you care for both of us?
Yes. We care for couples in the one home, under one coordinated plan, with the same team for you both.

For Lake Macquarie GPs, hospitals and discharge teams.

Send referrals to referrals@abchs.com.au or use our online form. We confirm within 24 to 48 hours, and a Registered Nurse assesses every client at home before care begins.
