"You have been outstanding in everything that has been done for him and have gone above and beyond to provide the best of outcomes for his welfare. Bringing all the services he needs together has been a big task but amazingly you have achieved it. We cannot thank you enough."

Newcastle questions.
- Do you provide DVA Community Nursing in Newcastle?
- Yes. We are a DVA contracted Community Nursing provider, DVA Provider 9728631A, with a Hunter base at Blacksmiths, caring for veterans across Newcastle from Newcastle East to Wallsend.
- What home care services are available in Newcastle?
- Through us: DVA Community Nursing, Veterans' Home Care, Support at Home, private nursing, step down and respite care, nursing agency staff, and NDIS supports. All are led by Registered Nurses.
- Which Newcastle suburbs do you cover?
- Newcastle East, Newcastle, The Hill, Cooks Hill, Merewether, Hamilton, Adamstown, Lambton, New Lambton, Kotara, Jesmond, Wallsend, Waratah, Mayfield, Stockton and nearby suburbs. If yours is not listed, call us.
- Can John Hunter Hospital or Calvary Mater refer directly to you?
- Yes. A treating doctor or discharge planner can send a written referral to referrals@abchs.com.au or use our online form. A hospital referral lasts six weeks, after which the GP sends a new one.
- How quickly can a nurse start in Newcastle?
- We reply to every referral within 24 to 48 hours, then a Registered Nurse books your home assessment. For a hospital discharge, call 02 9387 3030 so we can plan around the date.
- I live interstate. Can you look after my parent or sibling in Newcastle?
- Yes. Many of our Newcastle families live away. We arrange everything by phone and email, keep one consistent team around your family member, and send you regular updates.
- How do I get Support at Home in Newcastle?
- Call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 for an assessment. Once you are approved, ask for ABC Homes N Services as your provider and we arrange the rest with you.
- What will care cost me?
- DVA Community Nursing is free for eligible veterans. Support at Home clinical care has no contribution, and other services may carry one based on your means. Private nursing is quoted in writing. We confirm every cost before care starts.
- Can I switch to ABC Homes N Services from another provider?
- Yes. For Support at Home, your funding moves with you and there are no exit fees. For DVA Community Nursing, your GP sends us a new referral, which we help arrange. Either way, we handle the handover so your care does not stop.
- Can you care for both of us?
- Yes. We care for couples in the one home, under one coordinated plan, with the same team for you both.
For Newcastle GPs, hospitals and discharge teams.
Send referrals to referrals@abchs.com.au or use our online form. We confirm within 24 to 48 hours, and a Registered Nurse assesses every client at home before care begins.
